Pre School- God gave us 5 senses

    Tot School

H- almost 4 1/2
Bug- 17 months

We have continued on our theme creation and that God made man.  This week we have focused on that God gave each of us 5 senses to learn about and enjoy the world around us.

Verse of the week: "Taste and see that the Lord is good." Psalm 34:8, you can download my verse cards here.

Math:  Counting by 5's... I thought it was quite fitting seeing that we talked a lot about 5's all week.   You can download this awesome printable here from Homeschool Creations.  Then we practiced without the Skip Counting by 5's sheet.  I would say "5" then H would say "10" all of the way up to 100.  We did it while hanging out at home and while driving in the car.  H even did it all of the way up to 100 for daddy.

Writing:  H practiced writing his letter.  Look at that look of concentration.  I think sticking the tongue out must really run in the family!

Human Body Riddle book:
This was fun for H.  He liked solving the riddles and then gluing the pictures on each strip of paper.  You can download it here.

I printed off 2 copies of the pictures from the Human Body Riddle book to use for the 5 senses chart.  Here we cut out pictures of what we see, hear, taste, smell and feel and glued them in the correct column. (sorry having problems uploading pictures of this one)

On the day that we focused on the sense of taste, I prepared a little taste-test for H.  I poured a little pile of salt, then a pile of sugar, had a lime and a coffee bean.  Super simple, but it really re-reinforced the different tastes that we get to experience.

Music Time- When H was almost 2 we started going to Kindermusik.  He LOVED it!!  His teacher In Utah, Mrs. Theresa was amazing and we miss her.... since we moved the closest Kindermusik class is 40 minutes away.   So I decided that I would try to start some music time with the kids.  We pulled out all of H's instruments.  Bug really only liked it for the first few songs then she wanted to run off to do something else.  I think I will have a more consolidated plan for next time.  I wouldn't call this a success yet, but I want to stick with it :)

Play-doh
This was a first for Bug, she seemed to like it... and she really liked to eat it.  So, that is one thing that I will be really working on with her, not eating the playdoh!

Pre School- God Made the Human Body

Tot School

H- almost 4 1/2
Bug- almost 17 months

This week we have continued with the 6th day of creation-  but for the entire month of April we are focusing on God created Man.  It should be a really fun month, at least we have lots of fun things planned!  The primary focus of this week was just how amazing it is that God created each and every one of us, in a unique, but such an intricate way.  We talked a little bit about each body system, but will go in depth more in the weeks to come.

God Created Man:  If you want to download my entire lesson plan with all links, book suggestions, craft ideas and all for this month, you can get it here.

Verse of the week: "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made." Psalm 139:14
You can download our verse cards for this month here.

We did 'Measure Me" that you can download here.  H thought it was really fun to see how many inches long his thumb was and then the foot.  Such a simple activity, but he love it.

We also read the entire chapter of Psalm 139.  We would read a verse or two and then stop and talk about what H thought it meant.  He was really excited talking about being knit together in my mother's womb... "just like the baby in your belly mom!"  Or that God knew our structure, maybe that means our skeletal system...  Great conversation with my little man that I will forever cherish!

We traced out H's body and then he colored on it, he even drew in bones in a few places.

Then we traced one foot of each person in our family.  Here Bug is trying to get her shoes off so her foot can be traced too.
Our Family Feet- April 2010.  Seriously, how cute is Bug's tiny little foot when inside of her daddy's!

Exercise/ P.E.-
Playing catch with Daddy... this is a new skill he is working on.  Look at the concentration on his face!

Coloring Just like "Bro", that is what Bug calls H.

We have been really working on reading with Bug.  Just a month ago, she wouldn't sit still for a whole book.  Now she will sit on our lap for one story, hop down and grab another book from the shelf.  She may actually like to read!!  Whoo Hoo!
In the story "Night-Night, Little Pookie" the Mama gives Pookie a kiss goodnight.  Each time we read this book, Bug kisses the book then turns to me for a kiss.  It is so cute... And don't you love her post-nap, bed-head!
